Married Conjoined Twin Opens Up About The Question Everyone Keeps Asking: ‘People Are Obsessed With Sex’

Carmen Andrade, one of the famous conjoined twins, tied the knot with her husband nearly a year ago. Since then, she and her sister have been addressing the personal questions people can’t seem to stop asking.

Carmen and Lupita Andrade, both 25, were born in Mexico before moving to Connecticut, US, where they grew up. Their unique bond goes far beyond sisterhood — they are physically joined at the torso and share several organs including a pelvis, reproductive system, liver, and bloodstream.

Despite these shared systems, they each have their own heart and stomach, which makes their medical condition both rare and complex.

Each sister controls one leg — Carmen manages the right while Lupita handles the left. Their lives have always required teamwork and constant cooperation. In 2020, Carmen connected with Daniel McCormack on the dating app Hinge. After getting to know each other, the two eventually eloped in a small and private ceremony held in Connecticut in October of last year, where they now live as a married couple.

Carmen has explained that the key to making everything work, especially when it comes to respecting Lupita’s boundaries, is open and honest communication.

“I don’t know how else to put it,” she told People in a recent interview. She added that if there is ever something Lupita doesn’t feel comfortable with, whether physically or emotionally, “we just respect that.”

Lupita, who identifies as asexual, agrees that keeping things clear and simple works best. “I have headphones and a phone,” she explained. “I don’t care.”

Unfortunately, strangers don’t always show the same respect. According to Daniel, they often overstep and ask invasive questions.

“People are obsessed with sex, you know?” Daniel said. “And it is just like, frankly, it’s none of your f–king business.”

Carmen added her frustration as well, pointing out, “I don’t understand why people need to know about my private parts in order (to) humanize us,”

Lupita has also shared her dislike of being asked if she will ever develop romantic feelings for Daniel, something she feels is unfair and unnecessary to bring up.

“I love him as a brother,” she stated firmly, adding, “That’s about it.”

The couple has also been clear that they have no interest in raising children. Daniel himself said, “No kids, never plan on it,” and explained that he’s happier with the idea of being an uncle who can enjoy time with kids and then “give them back”.

Carmen has been open on her YouTube channel about her own health, sharing that she cannot get pregnant because of endometriosis and being on a hormone blocker. She said, “I never saw myself being a parent,”

In the past, Carmen has also spoken about how she and Lupita have been fetishized online. She explained that what stood out about Daniel was that he didn’t make her condition the focus of his attention, which immediately made her feel at ease around him.

“He didn’t lead with a question about my condition,” Carmen recalled. “I have social anxiety, and I’ve ended up cancelling dates at the last minute, but I felt calm on the way there.”

Defying all odds, the twins have long surpassed the three-day life expectancy doctors once predicted for them at birth. Today, they’ve built a strong presence online, amassing more than 257,000 subscribers on YouTube.

They plan to keep focusing on their channel, which features a variety of content, including comedy sketches written by Lupita.
